We have continued this week basically sticking to the Paleo. We both agree that we feel much better with the grains, dairy and especially the sugar. Lester is struggling a little more with the lack of sugar and sticking to the program. A vita wheat with honey does not count as Paleo and he won't through a perfectly good packet of Vita Wheat. We have been able to go without a glass of wine on Wednesday nights when we go to the club with dad. I know we can do it but sometimes its just easier to go along with what other people think you should. I am trying to change my ways and not worry about what other people think so maybe next week I will refuse the wine no matter what dad thinks.
I "failed" at lunch one day this week as I went to the dentist and had no lunch until later so grabbed half a wrap instead of my salad. I felt really bad about it and it sat quite heavy in my stomach afterwards so I think that proves that I should do without the Wheat.
The other thing I miss is fruit its hard to stick to 1 or 2 a day when I get a bit bored I look for something to munch on and fruit seems like a good option, maybe I need to bring some nuts etc instead.
Heading for a non Paleo weekend although we are starting to make this program our normal way of eating so we just automatically look for the healthy option of some meat and vege for meals and easily avoid the "fast food" hamburgers etc.

Impossible Whole 30
Firstly today was supposed to be the start of our Whole 30 but due to already planned weekends away where often the food options are not appropriate it will be a whole 5 days at a time :-)....
I know that it sounds like an excuse but High Tea is already booked and I am sure they wont be serving Paleo food also we are weak and a weekend away with friends must include some beer and champagne.
Our aim is them to stick the the whole 30 as close as possible during the week. Maybe after christmas in February there will be a chance to do a WHOLE 30.
In the mean time we have been away for a week and have generally happily stuck to a Paleo diet with only a few dinners and morning teas that did not comply. Overall we both agreed that we felt much better when we eat the right foods. I am finding some great recipes especially for snacks. I even pushed aside my mashed potato at lunch on Sunday quite happily.
So the first Monday of the whole 5 week I have had no problems saying no to cake, enjoyed my breakfast without toast and cut down significantly on the fruit. We are totally used to black coffee and tea and don't even contemplate the addition of milk.
Lester was comparing our trolly to those around us on Sunday afternoon and decided we looked like a couple of old hippies with our totally fresh and organic food :-)

FIVE DAYS
Well its been 5 days now and we seem to be getting on OK not really missing the bread for breakfast. We have had some good breakfasts with Avocado and baby spinach and eggs. I would like to find some breakfast ideas that don't involve eggs just for variety.
So far I have only had 1 indiscretion, chocolate cake unfortunately I couldn't resist. I made it and I wanted to at least taste it but on the bright side I usually would have had more than one piece but I stuck to the one. An achievement for me. Black coffee and Tea as becoming the norm and we are enjoying it. We both agree that the cuppacino makes you feel bloated and we both have always felt that Wheet Bix and Milk for breakfast sat very heavy. So not missing the Wheat or the Dairy.
Lester is still in trial mode and has had a few beers in the afternoon and had to be stopped from grazing on cheese etc at he usually does in the afternoon. He says its not official yet :-)
I think the thing is miss most is the fruit. I am used to eating at least 4 pieces a day and I am limiting it to 2 as I know its very high in sugar and that's what I need to cut down on if I want to loose weight.
Generally we both agree we feel better. Certainly we both have more energy and hopefully this will get even better as we go on.
Holidays start today and we are off to Melbourne for the cup so there will be lots of eating drinking at least on that day. I am sure we will have happy hour most afternoons with some beer and bubbly as well as some nibbles but we will try to be selective in what we eat and drink. It is amazing how empty the fridge and cupboard is without any processed food. You can only carry so much fresh food so we will pick it up on the road maybe we will find some good roadside fruit and veg along the way.
11th November will be the first official Whole 30 day.

STILL ALIVE
Well its Day 3 and we are still alive even without any dairy and no wheat. Who would have believed it :-)
If you listen to the negative voices we will probably fall apart from Osteoporosis and heart disease due to a lack of fibre and dairy not to mention way too much fat. I suppose its only 3 days so you never know :-)
Another good so far for me :-) Lester caved again today because he just wanted to fit in. He didn't do too bad yesterday had a good lunch and used his life line and called me instead of cruising into Maccas for coffee and a snack - well done.
I didn't sleep as well last night but maybe there were other factors like getting ready to go away and lots of things to think about but generally I think I am feeling good and not really missing the bread so much. We had a nice breakfast this morning of Baby spinach, avocado and poached eggs and I managed to get some left overs of the shepherds pie from Andrew for my lunch.
All in all we are going quite well considering we said this was not our official start time for Whole 30. Date and coconut logs and snack bacgs are helping me a lot. Today I passed up a cake given to me by one of my work friends and felt pretty good about it. I had a banana instead :-)

How do I feel
I know its only been 1 day but I slept better than I have in quite a while and woke up feeling quite a lot better than I have. Lester even said he felt like going for a walk!.... didn't go though?
Breakfast this morning was eggs, bacon, tomato, baby spinach and we didn't even miss the bread that much. Its not easy to change old ways. While I was making breaky I kept thinking that this is bad all this fried food..... but that's just what has been drilled into us for years and years so I just need to put those thoughts aside and keep frying :-)
We still need to be very careful that we don't eat too much fat. Fat is good but everything in moderation. Black coffee again today and I am quite liking it I don't have that bloated feeling that I tend to get after a large cuppacino. Date and almond and coconut rolls are good especially with a black coffee :-) Shopping on the way home for some dates and organic coconut :-)

A SLOW BEGINING
Today was not our official first day but we thought we would ease into it. I started rather badly with two slices of toast for breakfast but after that I did very well. I quite enjoy the black coffee and tea and only missed sugar a little bit. On the way home I bought some appropriate snack food to keep us on track.
Lester on the other hand didn't do so well. He started off ok with bacon and eggs for breakfast but forgot to say no to the toast and cappuccino and then had a subway sandwich for lunch. Tut Tut Lester.
We managed to avoid dessert after dinner and just had a camomile tea.
All in all a good start for me.

MAKING A CHANGE
After some reading and listening to reports on telly and talking we decided we wanted to try Paleo. I have considered it in the past but decided that its was just too hard but after some time eating as much basic natural food as we can we think we can go the next and step.... The Whole 30.
Its only 30 days..... No dairy, no alcohol, no grains....NO LIFE :-) We are very much aware there some events coming up where we wont be able to stick to this but as long as we try our best to comply as much as possible and add more days for each day off the plan we should be at least giving it a go.
Hopefully this will make a difference to the way we feel.
We intend to keep a record here of whether or not it makes a difference.
