We're Baaack
After a very big 5 1/2 week holiday we are back home and starting to get back on track.
I remember before we left Lester said we can stay pretty much on track while we are away..;... Famous last words. That worked for about 2 days and then the bread and bread rolls called me and I caved.... but we were on holidays and that doesn't count.
The whole time we were away we both had some complaints about indigestions and feeling yuk after all that sugar we just ate and not to mention... I can't sleep could it be the chocolate and baileys and ice I had just before bed..... you think!!!.
Lester kept saying when we get home I am going to do a whole 30 no excuses.... I was very skeptical at this remark and was shot down for it.... "of course I can do a whole 30 with no alcohol don't you believe me" Well no I didn't and I was right we are back home 1 week and discussing what we ate today and the comment was oh I had a beer this afternoon but just 1. I thought you were going to do a Whole 30...... Oh thats not possible we have to wedding comming up and all sorts of other things anyway 1 beer doesn't matter. I am a little disappointed especially because my skepticism was yelled down very loudly but I have been proven right. Does that make me feel good no just sad.
Anyway I am mostly back on track unfortunately my job is extremely boring and sometimes eating is a good pass time. Mostly fruit but thats not good either. Not sure what to do about it maybe look for a new job and I am nearly 60..... how scarey is that and some days I feel all of my 60 years but I will just keep trying...

DREADED EASTER
Well the chocolate feast that is Easter was not tooo bad. We went away with dad and my sister inlaw and her partner. We purposely didn't buy any eggs or any hot cross buns. But... SIL did she brought hot cross buns and a box of favourites. Unfortunately they both were the end of me. I am definately addicted to sugar once I eat some I must have more and more. So I ate favourites but the dozen (well quite a few anyway). Not to mention hot cross buns and bread rolls. So I decided after easter that would be the end.....but... we have the Anzac long weekend now and we are going away with SIL and partner again so I promise myself I will get straight back on track on Monday.
I suppose I won't kill me to have a few cheats weekends as long as I get back on track asap.
Note to self GET BACK ON TRACK Monday 28th no excuses.

ONGOING PALEO
Well its been a while since I posted here but we are continuing on our Paleo Lifestyle and enjoying it. People still ask "our you still on your diet?" and it doesn't matter how many times you explain its not a diet its just the way we choose to eat they really don't listen. If you don't eat what everyone else eats you are on a special diet. I don't think this attitude will every change!. The other common comment is can you eat that? I can eat what every I choose I just choose not to eat certain foods. Mainly anything processed, we eat only fresh whole foods, organic if possible but its often much too expensive.
Lester has had a blood test and his Cholesterol (which everyone said will be soo high if you continue to eat all that fat) is actually low, he has also been taken of blood pressure medication which is great. He is also loosing weight (bastard), he looses it much faster then me its not fair.
I have yet to go to the doctors to have mine checked but I will soon. I hate going to the doctors but I need to get checked out.
We will continue with the "diet" as it seems to be great for us we have lots of energy and things seem to be good.

NAME CHANGE
Done!!! I have now changed the title and name of this Blog to "Davies Paleo Life" and "Our Paleo Life".
Now I don't have to focus on the Whole 30 anymore :-)

ON TRACK
Now the silly season is truly over and we are back to normal. Australia Day I had great plans to stay off the alcohol and sugar but of course failed. Who can resist a Black Russian, champagne and pavalova with berries and lemon curd :- ) Yummy.
I really should rename this blog as I have definitely decided that we will not be doing a whole 30. At least not this year. Our social calendar is already filling up with weekend trips away to Melbourne and the Hunter Valley as well as camping trips. Unfortunately when we are socializing with our friends its very hard to avoid the champagne and this is not because I have to follow the "sheep" but simply because I enjoy a glass of champagne with my girl friends. Eating is not that much of a problem I am learning to skip the cheese and chips and make sure we have some yummy nuts to snack on instead. As we are all getting older we no longer drink to "excess" so a few drinks are not going to kill us.
At home we are eating well and we both enjoy the foods we eat. Always fresh and nothing processed. Even when we eat out which is getting less these days we can still enjoy some meat and veg or salad its quite easy to say "No Chips or potato" We both agree coffee at home is better than one from a coffee shop.
On to how I am feeling.. This week "I know its is only 2 days" but I am feeling great I have been to the gym and enjoyed it and even come home and cooked something different for dinner without really feeling exhausted. I need to work on sleep now. I started last night by turning off the TV around 1/2 hour before I went to bed. I just went into my sewing room and arranged some patchwork place mates I am making. Then went to bed.
I need to keep up the positive attitude that certainly makes me feel better. Oh and the house is clean that also helps me feel positive :-)
I am hoping that some of my aches and pains will go away soon.... please!!

GETTING BACK ON TRACK
Well the silly season is almost over.... we still have Australia Day weekend to get past and then maybe we can get on with our new life time eating plan.
I personally have been feeling like crap since New Year. Mostly staying on the plan with only a couple of very minor hiccups but it seems my body doesn't like the change. I have been feeling sick some days and most days feel like I am coming down with a cold or flu. Not sleeping well at all. So I am not looking forward the the weekend where it is going to be very hard to avoid those foods that I am trying to give up like alcohol and sugar :-(
Lester does not see the point of giving up alcohol and gets quite cranky with me when I say he shouldn't drink it even if its just for 1 month ??
As for the whole 30 after reading an interesting post the other day I have decided that we probably wont be doing it. Why you say?
A whole 30 implies there is an end to it and on day 31 you just go back to the old ways that's not what I want to do I want this to be our lifestyle our way of eating for the rest of our days so with that in mind I have cleaned out our pantry and threw out all the foods we won't be eating (except for a small supply of flour and sugar just in case I need it). I know thats not exactly what I should do but its all right up on the top shelf and the rest of the shelves are filled with nuts, almond meal, coconut flour and cans of coconut milk and tomatoes and fish all very Paleo below the top shelf :-)
Looking forward to end true end of the silly season !

Post Christmas Catch UP
Well...... Christmas was not exactly as I had planned. We knew we would step outside the plan but.... I just fell totally off the wagon. Told myself I wouldn't consume any chocolate... But Lindt Balls are Paleo Right???
Everything went totally down hill at new year with drinks and chocolates, bread and anything else we could eat.
On the bright after the "festive Season" we got back on track. It has been a little bit of a struggle but I think we are winning. I still have trouble with Lester and Alcohol he doesn't seem to think it matters if he has a couple here and there but thats that really learning anything about how his body works. Anyway we will keep trying to stay on track.
Australia Day long weekend coming up and we are spending it at a friends place which will include plenty of eating and drinking. I personally am not looking forward to getting off track which unfortunately is inevitable no matter how much I tell myself I won't.
The main problem is getting back on track and the yukky feeling of "Carb Flu" which seems to be very hard on us. My theory on this is due to our age and the amount of time we have been eating bread etc and it takes longer to get your system back into gear burning fat instead of sugar.
On a positive note I am going to try to limit my bread and sugar intake as well as alcohol..... I can only try :)
